Pupil Focused Boxing Intervention
These sessions were created for student's who have high level behavioural and mental health needs that are at the core of this intervention.
The physical element of our provision focuses on developing boxing technique, discipline, fitness, and emotional regulation. Through structured, non-contact boxing activities, students are provided with a positive outlet to release built-up energy and manage challenging emotions, while building confidence, resilience, and self-belief.
Each intervention begins by introducing the core fundamentals of boxing, including stance, footwork, movement, balance, and combinations. These foundations help students improve focus, concentration, and self-discipline while working towards achievable goals. Depending on the needs of the school, sessions can be delivered on a one-to-one basis, within a targeted cohort, or as part of a small-group provision. Students work individually, in pairs, or in groups using professional boxing gloves and pads provided by Time Out Boxing.
As students progress through the intervention, sessions incorporate high-tempo boxing combinations, bodyweight exercises, cardiovascular drills, and fitness challenges. The structured nature of the provision encourages students to remain engaged, follow instruction, and develop positive behaviours that can be transferred back into the classroom environment.
Throughout the provision, we work closely with teachers, SEND teams, pastoral staff, and senior leaders to monitor the impact of the intervention. We track indicators such as emotional regulation, behaviour, attendance, engagement, and pupil voice to assess progress and ensure each young person receives the support they need. This collaborative approach enables us to tailor the provision to the individual needs of both the student and the cohort.
This provides students with a safe and supportive environment to discuss their experiences, emotions, and challenges. Through guided discussion, students explore topics such as emotional regulation, resilience, self-awareness, confidence, relationships, and positive decision-making. Coaches also introduce practical coping strategies that can be applied throughout the school day and beyond.
By combining physical activity with structured mentoring, our provision supports both personal development and emotional wellbeing. The objective of every intervention is to ensure students leave feeling emotionally regulated, focused, and ready to re-engage positively with learning. Ultimately, our aim is to create meaningful outcomes for each individual and cohort, supporting their success both within education and in everyday life.
